Sharon Bennett calls herself an encore entrepreneur because after two decades as a senior public relations specialist (for Seattle’s municipal utility, FPL/Next Era Energy and Palm Beach SCORE) she founded her own firm, which offers business and promotional writing, public relations, and writing company and personal histories.
“I’m a member of the Association of Personal Historians, a certified legacy advisor and a history lover in general,” the Jupiter resident said.
After graduating from the University of Florida, she was a classical music radio announcer-producer at an NPR station. Later, she worked in public TV, commercial radio and TV news in San Francisco and Seattle.
“I re-started in PR and media relations for nonprofits, government and business and now there’s another chapter called opening my own business,” she says of her company, Coverage Communications, LLC.
“SCORE, my first major client, is co-sponsoring a workshop for those of us who are ‘seasoned’ – that means over 50,” says Bennett, who herself is in her 50s.
The Encore Entrepreneur workshop Aug. 24 is for people over 50 starting or running their own business and is designed to help them learn the ins and outs of running a business.
In her spare time, Bennett likes to travel to Seattle, go to Hilton Head, S.C., during the holidays with family, garden, take Zumba classes and workout at Jupiter Fitness. She belongs to several book clubs, volunteers for Friends of Jupiter Beach and sings in the Jupiter’s Temple Beth Am choir.
“No matter how busy I am, I never neglect the good things in life, like family, travel, food and fun,” she says.
